    What are preemptive voting rights?

Preemptive voting rights are granted to shareholders when a corporation wants to issue new shares. These rights give existing shareholders an option to purchase the newly issued shares in proportion to their existing holdings before the public. This way, the existing shareholders do not lose their power and influence in a company.
