Can we make our own arrangements for child support?

Parties are free to enter into their own agreements for child support payments, but it is advisable to have a lawyer look over any agreements to ensure that both parties are being treated fairly. A lawyer can also recommend changes or additions to an agreement in order to cover issues that the parties did not consider. Issues such as appropriate cost of living, extracurricular expenses, or schooling costs are only some of the things that the parties may not have considered that should be taken care of in an agreement.

An agreement cannot prevent the court from assessing the situation and making an order to replace the agreement. The court always has the right and discretion to consider and remedy a situation as it sees fit.
